2008 Quiet Flight Space Coast Grom Trifecta - Event 2

This seems like a prime piece of realestate...is what we thought as we set up, what was to be an all-time affair. It was the northside of Canavaral Pier and Quiet Flight was movin in. So they invited Globe and the Christian Surfers down to host 32 of the best 16 and under surfers from all over Florida and a day of fun.

The waves were a little small but the weather was great and people were everywhere. Event #2 of the Quiet Flight Grom Trifecta was literally "Rockin and Rollin" The early morning heats saw some super clean micro bombs coming through and it seemed it was gonna be the day of the little man as repeat performers like N.Carolina transplant Corey Howell and Hobe Sound's Ryan Croteau seemed destined for greatness. New comer Austin Clouse from Ormond Beach made the semis and danced his way into everyones hearts. If you were there you know what I'm talkin bout. In the end it was four goofyfoots havin it out for all the clout. Bouncing back from a double interferance in the first event Keto Burns from St Augustine surfed smoothly all day and went home with a 4th place finish. Trifecta newcomer Tommy Orsini ended up third but not before throwin down a few nasty hacks. When the final horn rang it was Tayler Brothers outlasting a late charge from Chad Ellingham. Going back to back and solidifying a points lead in the trifecta, the Gulf Coast phenom Brothers moves one step closer to claiming the $500 airline voucher Grand Prize..Next up, April 19th for event number three and the crowning of the champ.

Event coordinators are talking about bringing the last contest back to the pier since it was so fun this time. So get your entries into Quiet Flight and stay tuned. Thank you to everyone who came out especially Christian Surfers for feeding everyone and keeping us hydrated...See ya in April.

2008 Quiet Flight Space Coast Grom Trifecta - Event 1

What do you get when you put 32 groms on a beach with a chance to win a $500 airfare voucher and a $320 Nixon watch? You get the Quiet Flight Grom Trifecta presented by Globe and a whole lotta fun. The first stop of three, The 16th Street Surfbout, was in question early in the morning with dark clouds looming and some pretty stiff winds to boot. But when comp director and Globe's East Coast Team Manager Mason Sapp said lets go, the clouds started to part, the winds backed off, and it was on. 32 of some of the best 16 and under groms from all over Florida were on hand to battle it out for the tons of prizes up for grabs and a $500 airfare voucher going to the winner of the Trifecta.

With small conditions on serve the talent and patience of these groms was definately tested. A few sure bets from the early rounds like Shane Holmes(Cocoa Bch.) , Keto Burns(St.Aug.), and Peter Polanski(Indian Harbour) unfortunately went down along with a pack of mini groms, who may of been outsized but would not be outmatched. 12 and under wonders, Corey Howell(Satelite Bch.), Logan "Squak" Hayes(Sebastian), and Justin Crouteou(Hobe Snd.) will be heard from in this series for years to come. This opened the door for a very highly contested final that basically came down to the last two or three waves ridden. Local favorites Tyler Thornsley(Cocoa Bch.) and Chad Ellingham(Satelite Bch.) fought off Ryan Crouteou(Hobe Snd.), but snagging the win and the 1,000 points toward the Trifecta championship was the Gulf Coast's Taylor"Feet"Brothers. Taylor also took home the Nixon watch with the high wave of the event, an 8.1 in his quarter final.

Next stop on the Quiet Flight Grom Trifecta presented by Globe is March 8th at the Cocoa Beach Pier. You can enter at Quiet Flight Surf Shop so act fast...32 slots go quick. See ya at the pier. And oh yeah did I mention that as soon as we wrapped up the awards those clouds came back and the rain came down...Kinda cool how things work out sometimes.
